DR: How did you get started in the entertainment field, Mark?
MB: A girl cousin of mine in Hollywood always was a huge idol, so to speak, with her dealing with a very select group of highly marketable talents. She impressed me so much, so I guess I followed her lead.
DR: How many years have you been Finding Talent?
MB: After dealing with only models for a few years getting works at Car, Boat, and Trade Shows, Conventions, and a little Printwork, I chose to become a scout for an International Association that created the Olympics of Entertainment, an event named the World Championships of Performing Arts.
DR: When and how did you meet Griff O'Neil?
MB: I replied to a full-page ad that Griff had in Pageantry Magazine in mid-1997 advertising the 1st annual World Championships that October at the LAX Wyndham Hotel.
DR: Do you remember how we met at Burgers in Hollywood?
MB: Don't understand this one, Dawn. Is this a trick question?
DR: I think you're going to be the next Aaron Spelling!
MB: Funny. Others think I have the potential to be the next Henry Aaron. I love either striking out or hitting home runs. Know what I mean??
DR: I want you to explain your Talent Tour, and what you are looking for!
MB: I'm merely looking for the Finest Young Performing Artists in ALL areas of talent for a National Tour designed to showcase their artistry & make them quite busy, and eventually, popular entertainers in America's eyes & with Corporate America, which has shown strong interest in sponsoring the Tour Production.
DR:Why do people really need to look at the site?
MB: There are so many individuals & firms promising this & that to people attempting to make it in ShowBiz. If any person takes the time to really read our website, they're shown proof that we're connected in Hollywood & the Entertainment Industry. There's no guesswork with you & I about being 'in the know', Dawn.
DR: Why the sincere Need to send audition tapes First?
MB: Because time IS money, and it is so unnecessary to even spend a moment on the phone with a talent or wanna-be talent until it's determined by their audition materials their True Caliber of talent & marketability.
DR: Why do you feel Judging Beauty Pageants is important?
MB: Judging Pageants & Talent Searches is very important because of the Connections you can make at these events, along with discovering some very marketable individuals. You sit with & get to know Casting & Talent agents, and can establish marketing right there with these professionals.
DR: What was your First pageant you were a Judge at & how often do you accept being on a judge's panel?
MB: The first time I was asked to judge pageant was for a Ohio Hawaiian Tropic State Finals in '95. The 1st talent event was a Sunshine International Model & Talent Association search at The Mirage in Las Vegas that same year.
DR: What was your most Memorable Judging Experience?
MB: I'd have to say it was at the December '99 Cities of America National Finals at The Peabody Hotel on International Drive in Orlando, FL. The contestants had won preliminaries in their closest major U.S. city to where they reside and advanced to the one-week finals at this plush hotel near Universal Studios & Disney. The first few days of the pageant proved the kids, teens, and young adults in this system were Really Class Acts, they emphasized exactly what the pageant they were competing in was all about: sincere Inner Beauty & trueness in Character.
MB: I was sooooo impressed with this group of young girls, as so many of them handled themselves extremely professionally in every aspect of the pageant, especially the interview portion and the "what would you do to improve the world" question in front of the judges & audience at center stage. This seems like a question that anyone can answer admirably, but I know from experience that MOST people do not answer it nearly as well as the girls did at this national pageant system's finals.
DR: Have you yourself been an Actor or Performer?
MB: I've done numerous extra & stand-in work on many sets in Hollywood & greater L.A. There's also four theater works I participated in that had a great deal to do with my learning the techniques & appreciation for the Art of Acting.
DR: How did you meet Ron Rice, owner of Hawaiian Tropic?
MB: The president of the World Championships of Performing Arts had referred me to speaking with him after I expressed my desire to do a pageant system quite similar to Hawaiian Tropic in respectability, but at the same time extraordinarily different. There's a need for a pageant system that emphasizes & creates real entry into the Business of Show, in other words, Movies!
DR: What are some of the Awesome things PAPRO is doing?
MB: What ever can be conceived can be realized with the proper connections. ShowBiz is nothing more than connections, as you know more than most. Without the right people taking your efforts & works seriously, you can not win in entertainment. This is the cold hard fact, but one that lays down the laws of truism, honest efforts, righteousness, and a certain standard that must be in order to be a repeat performer or producer in the exciting & interesting world of Film & Movies.
DR: Well Mark, you know how I first met you at the World Championships in October '97. It took me 6 months to put the Go-See Room together for that event, which had contestants from 16 countries that first year, with All Top Talent & Casting Agents and Producers! It was Awesome Connections for both Talent & Scouts, as we met when we were having Lunch at the Hotel. We have now been working together for 3 Years, and ours really is a Winning Connection. Like you said, the reason Judging pageants is so Important, you're right on with what you said, as that is how I started my Business over 25 Years ago!
DR: I want to thank you for allowing me to be present when you had Ron Rice in the office @ Hollywood & Vine. That's where I first met Ron. It was a pleasure meeting him. Now I am Producer of Hawaiian Tropic Model Search in Florida for Kids & Teens. You know that 7th floor is where I'd hosted the Hollywood Celebrity Christmas Parade. I was Reporting from the 7th Floor window overlooking Hollywood & Vine.
MB: Yes, those were the Good 'Ol Days. We made great friendships & business contacts in that office, though nothing compared to what is to happen from this point on, Dawn. Like Karen Carpenter sang, "We've only just begun". This is us, as there's no stopping OUR Train anytime soon!
DR: I believe you, Mark. I am so glad you thought the Most Memorable Judging Experience was when I gave you my Connection for the Cities of America Pageant's National Finals in Orlando. I've wanted to tell you how I really enjoyed watching the girl's Eyes Light Up when you were talking to them & their parents, and how you really took the Time to Give them all the Right Information. Not many people take that Time.
MB: Thank You for being you, Dawn. I appreciate you so very much. I'm extremely blessed to have such a Real Friend in my life. Thank you for all that you've done to date, and for always being there for good advise.
DR: You're most welcome, Mark. True Friends do what truly Must be done. There's No Compromise!
DR: Until next time, this is Dawn Reese. Reporting from Dawn 'til Dusk, simply because that's me! That is why I call myself The Winning Edge. Pageant Gals really need to bring Headshots and Demos to Pageants. Not leave them at home. This is so Important. If anyone is interested in the Demo Tape of the World Championships of Performing Arts, send $5 for postage. I can send it to you, and you will see this Awesome Event In Hollywood, California. Send $5 to: Winning Edge, P.O. Box 33722, Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, 33420
